With a degree in Art Education, and graduate work in design, Pat Pauly is happiest when she is constructing things. Drawn to the textile arts, she used fabric as a medium of choice when exploring printmaking in 1980. She started quilting in 1981, and soon her quilts were shown both locally, at the Minnesota State Fair, and nationally at Quilt National.

While working as an exhibition designer, she designed exhibitions for topics as diverse as dinosaurs, to Impressionist paintings to Tiffany glass. In an exhibition that ran from 2004-2005, she was given the chance to both design and curate an exhibition of the quilt collection of the Genesee Country Village and Museum. From this work with historical quilts and her background in contemporary quilts, she has redefined her quilt art.

Pat grew up outside of Buffalo , New York , and makes her home outside of Rochester , New York . Spending a semester in Siena , Italy , was one of the highlights of her college experience. She is thrilled to be working in the medium of contemporary art quilts, where she can apply her love of art and design to this fluid and changing medium.

Pat is known for her improvisational technique, her bold use of color and unusual juxtaposition of printed fabric. Her workshops on contemporary art quilts carry the same qualities as her work—energized, spontaneous, and artistic.
